The almighty SLEEP. These dudes released their first album back in 91' when i was one year old. I love this fucking band.
They released Volume 1 which was one of the first really dark doom stoner metal albums. It just plods along like a never ending Sabbath number, With chugging bass lines on the song "Wall of Yawn" and much more spacey feeling vocals and almost feels as if it's being chanted, rather than sang. The vocals will often become an instrument of their own, uninteligable screaming that creates a feeling of: Fuck.
Volume 2 wasn't really much, just an EP, showcasing Black Sabbath's Lord of This World, and 2 songs that show up on their pinnacle of awesome stoner doom raw amazingness, Holy Mountain.
Holy Mountain was the band's last real release unfortunatly. It has only 7 tracks, starting with the amazing Dragonaut, and working its way up to the monsterous 10 minute stoned out jam track "From Beyond", to other tracks like "Some Grass", which is a meger 48 seconds of banjo like plucking with delay.
They later tried to record Jerusalem, Which was originally refered to as Dopesmoker - A one track monolith of pure dark stoner rock. The record company would not let them release a 52 minute song as an album and the frustrated Sleep after many tries to record, disbanded.
All is not lost though. They plan to reunite for a 2 set, one time only show at the All Tommarows Parties music festival. If only I had the means to get to England in May, I would totally be there.
